OUR STORY.

In March of 2020, members of the SELL Fellowship at UT Austin sought out ways to support vulnerable communities impacted by COVID-19. Through this work, our team identified one of the most pressing issues facing the healthcare system today - the nationwide blood crisis.

As we came to understand, local blood banks have historically struggled to meet the ongoing demand for blood and plasma in hospitals. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this struggle. Thousands of blood drives were cancelled across the nation as social distancing guidelines went into effect, causing an already delicate system to become vulnerable to collapse. Recognizing this clear call-to-action, we founded The Blood Brigade [now the Texas Blood Brigade].

Our mission was [and still is] to inform and empower university students to donate blood.

Texas Blood Brigade is committed to sharing relevant, reliable, and thorough information surrounding the nationwide blood crisis, with the hopes that our followers [like yourself!] become empowered to donate blood as a result. We understand that many factors restrict individuals from donating blood, so in the case that you are unable to lend an arm at this time, we encourage you to share this page with others who can.

Thank you to each organization and person who has contributed to the wellbeing and success of Texas Blood Brigade so far: We Are Blood TX, UT Student Government, SELL Fellowship, Celesia, Finlay, Antony, Melynda, Kiran, and Sanika.

Please stay safe and donate blood if you can!
